In an extraordinary drive, Kimi Antonelli charged all the way from P19 on the grid to win the Italian Grand Prix, becoming the first Italian driver to claim victory on home soil since Ludovico Scarfiotti in 1966. Having started out of position on the Hard compound tire, Kimi sliced through the pack to P12 early on before switching to the Medium tire during a timely red flag. Meanwhile, George Russell executed a classic strategy from P2, switching to the Hard tyre under the same red flag with the goal of leading to the finish line.

As Kimi worked his way up to challenge his teammate for the lead, a mid-race Virtual Safety Car prompted Mercedes to pit him for a fresh set of Mediums to ensure he could push to the end. Rejoining in P6, Kimi rapidly carved back through the field and closed the gap to George, ultimately making the decisive pass for the victory with just three laps remaining.

The sensational 1-2 finish marked the 50th F1 victory for an Italian driver, Mercedes' eighth win at the "Temple of Speed," and a milestone 250th Grand Prix win for Mercedes as a power unit manufacturer. Celebrating on his home soil, Deputy Technical Director Simone Resta joined the driver duo on the podium. The historic result leaves Mercedes leading the Constructors' Championship by 122 points, while Kimi extends his lead in the Drivers' standings to 66 points over teammate George.
